New Delhi / Frankfurt, February 18: Air India and the Lufthansa Group have taken a major step toward creating a joint business collaboration designed to transform air travel between India and Europe. The two carriers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this week, laying the groundwork for a future joint business agreement that will deepen cooperation across their networks.

Under the proposed framework, the airlines aim to coordinate flight schedules and route planning, jointly market services, and enhance loyalty and customer programs to give passengers smoother and more efficient travel options. The partnership will initially focus on strengthening links between India and key European markets including Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy and Switzerland, with the possibility of extending to the rest of Europe and the Indian subcontinent after regulatory approvals.

Both carriers already have a long-standing relationship through Star Alliance and extensive codeshare arrangements. The new partnership is expected to build on these existing ties by improving connectivity, expanding route networks, and offering travelers more seamless one-ticket journeys across continents.

Executives from both airlines described the agreement as a milestone for India–Europe air travel, aligning with growing demand for international connectivity and economic ties between the regions.
